i wanted to understand how much oil was being spilled daily in the gulf. So I calculated the volume of a gallon, a barrel, and then began arranging it in various ways. It dawned on me that it was getting close to a familiar size.

The volume shown is not of barrels stacked together but just the contents of those barrels.

BP is now saying the spill may be as much as 60,000 barrels a day. This is the equivalent of ALL the painted ladies on Steiner.

  • BP now admitting spill may be as much as 60,000 barrels a day

  • skytruth is now estimating the spill to be 25,000 barrels a day. which means one day of the spill roughly equals 2-1/2 standard victorian 3-1/2 story homes.

  • You know, if everyone put a cup of sugar in the gas tank of every motor today, you could all go buy a bike. :)

  • Another way to put it into perspective is that it roughly equivalent to the amount of oil that leaks into the Gulf every day from NATURAL oil seeps, except the natural seepage won't stop when the BP blowout is under control.

I hear that already found the 2nd oiled bird; that's 2 in two weeks.

  • wow, that's a lot of oil. poor sea animals.
