We were challenged to throw away the traditional iconography of election coverage and produced a design solution that was both contemporary and instantly recognisable as BBC News. The quality and impartiality of the journalism needed to be reflected by an arresting brand that cut through the complexity of politics and presented relevant information to the audience in a clear and engaging format.
The resulting design motif was carried though all the coverage and the principle of clear and unambiguous communication was applied to all the pan media design work. The range and ambition of the election night brief was unprecedented including secret plans to project onto the House of Commons and the creation of biggest swing-o-meter ever.
The reel demonstrates the width and breadth of the brand and its versatility; all the excerpts are from the live overnight results programme.
