NOTE: This video is sped up 2X to show the speed that it will run once I have the new servo drive installed. The final video is now posted and is real time, with no edits, start to finish.
Update to 4th axis project. Belt drive is final design with accomodation for 2:1 and 3:1 ratios and motor has been moved outboard to keep it out of the swarf and oil.
The Mach3 programming now includes switching from spindle mode to indexer mode, and I have written threading macros to do all of the thread calculations on the fly.
The homing index on the front is temprary and will be moved to the back. This iteration has only needle roller thrust bearings front and rear. Final version will be a completely new head with ball bearings. A threaded collar on the back of the spindle provides a precise pre-load.
To be continued . . . .
very cool stuff! Can you share how you are changing between "Index mode" and "Spindle Mode"? I have a self made 4th axis myself and would like to eventually do something like you have!

Fantastic setup! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do for your final spindle.
Boy, you have that part dialed in to the n'th degree! I love how the endmill drops into the T-slot during the drilling. Do you have your spotting drill positioned to use the adjacent T-slot? :-)
