@OzzInter The most of them still produce Kei cars. I think the most of them aren't bad at all. OK, they're small but very economical. I tested the new Cuore (MIra) and I was surprised at how lively the car is.

All these little <360cc powered vehicles were "Kei Cars" (City Cars) designed to conform to a Japanese tax rule that encouraged very small (<360cc) powered vehicles.
Daihatsu, Datsun, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Subaru all built "Kei Cars" in the past.
The "360cc" rule has changed but micro cars a still built in Japan for the local market.

30万円って言っても、今の物価に換算すると500万円は優に超えるので、そこそこ裕福な家庭にしか手に入らなかったはず。軽自動車とは言え、庶民にとっては自家用車はまだまだ高嶺の花だったようだ。本格的なマイカーブームが到来するのは、昭和40年代に入ってからだったようだ。
