Privilege

This piece explores the invisible system of racism and white privilege which exists in the United States. I am very inspired by the writings of Peggy McIntosh, writer of "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" in which the author identifies ways in which she is privileged as a white person. It opened my eyes to the small ways in which I benefit from a system of advantage simply by the color of my skin. I believe that bringing this issue to the public in a form in which the people of privilege can become aware of these subtleties, it may create a dialog and even a behavioral change among its viewers. It will act to reveal the institutional benefits that people of the white race are given in a means to create an elevated consciousness.

Using animation in an engaging and less-heavy handed way, I aim to slowly open up this issue to the viewers. I think that the simplicity of form and words this medium provides allows the viewer to reflect on the content. As well, the format is small, youtube, ipod and mobile size so it can easily be spread and shared among viewers. In the event that someone receives it while actually outside in an environment, whether it is racially diverse or not, they may look around there surroundings and think differently about their role in this invisible system of privilege and disadvantage.

Even outside of the criticisms coming from Stormfront and the like, this video is making enormous, sweeping, and fundamentally incorrect generalizations. This campaign has made many egregious errors in their approach at combating any existing racism; rather than pointing out specific examples first, your forcing your fundamental point that you have falsely deduced. I'm sorry to say that you will be recieving blowback of monumental proportions.

Did you really fall for the Jewish propaganda BS promoted by the video? (You're aware of Peggy McIntosh being a Jewess, of course.) At times like this I feel the white peoples superior thinking ability is really a myth.

You did notice that the aim is NOT that people of color should have the same "privileges" (ie. living a normal life we whites created for ourselves against no-one), only that YOU should suck, too. I bet you didn't.

Being a privilaged white person is NOT wrong. White privilage is a system. A system that every white person, myself included, is born into. What this video is doing is trying to make white people aware of the system and do what is right by not being racist and help make others aware of this as well. We can't end racism until we accept that there is a system of white privilage. By the way, originally a white woman wrote this. Tell me again its racist against whites....
