  • For some reason I've always found that understanding the C major scale was easiest when I visualized it as D dorian. The reason being is that the root note of dorian mode is on the point of symmetry within the scale - so I only had to memorize half the step pattern. ie.

    D - EF - G - Ascending step pattern @-**-*-

    D - CB -A - Descending step pattern @-**-*-

    Or maybe I'm just cooky. lol
