As we began work on the Senior Memory Video, one of the ideas I wanted to try was opening with various scenes from around the school, fading in and counting down, with the Alma Mater in the background.
So, the day after Senior Day, I grabbed the camera and ran to the Choir Room and asked if I could video them singing the Alma Mater to use its audio on the video. They were happy to, and nailed it in one, outstanding take. Thank you, Choir!
I was so close (to get good audio) that people on the edges don't fit within the frame. I panned the camera around a bit and you can see everyone at least once, but the video was never expected to be shown.
As a footnote, I've always loved how this audio turned out. The small-room echo-y sound just has a very personal sound to it, and I felt like it definitely helped set the mood of the Senior Memory Video's first minute with a moment for reflection.
On the other hand, I was never happy with how the fade-in and countdown looked. I only had one chance to get that right and it was mistimed. If I had the chance to do it over again, I'd have just shown all the scenes half-faded, with the Alma Mater in the background and no countdown.
