Resident, Tony Torrance looks at the overall condition of his neighborhood, English Avenue. A majority of the homes are vacant and boarded-up. Properties that are owned by banks and out-of-town companies have been neglected and have left English Avenue looking like a war zone. The few residents that are left are scared because the homes have been broken into and are being inhabited by drug dealers and users. With a quick tour of the neighborhood it's easy to see that the city has taken no responsibility for enforcing the overwhelming number of code violations.
that's a damn shame. you know some of that debris from those old apartments must have asbestos and lead paint in it— my grandfather died from mesothelioma from asbestos. the city lets neighborhoods that don't have a large tax base go. there needs to be something done, first and foremost about the debris and trash on properties and roads. secondly the owners of these properties need to be found and fined for leaving homes in this condition so that drug addicts and dealers can use them.

It's interesting that the narrator wants the city to come fix it, and the comment below that "the city" is letting the Bluff die... why don't local residents just go and clean these properties up?

I live here as well. I'm not scared though and never had a problem with crime. But I agree we need to do more to clean up the neighborhood and really we should all step up and clean up our own blocks instead of waiting for the city or other people who don't give a crap to do it.
