A fully automated process wears the edges of 3D objects to get rid of the typical sterile look of virtual worlds. This is the idea of the Eurographics 2007 short paper "Exemplar-based Worn Edges" by Christoph Brachmann, Benjamin Walther-Franks, and Jörn Loviscach.
