My brother (Gregory P. Gentile) served on this beautiful and proud ship. He was part of the final recommissioning crew (1982) and served when she last fired her guns in anger (Lebanon). I was fortunate to have been on board for a dependent's cruise out of her port in Long Beach back in the 80s. What an amazing battleship!

@Nautilus1972 The early inventors of radar (the name radar was coined by the United States Navy in 1940) were Heinrich Hertl (German) Christian Huelsmeyer (German) Guglielmo Marcont (Itailian) and Nikola Tesla (Austrian). The only invention Great Britian can claim for radar was stolen by Robert Watson-Watt a British meterologist who used the work of others to study weather patterns. lol The United States was supporting Britian in WW11 as early as 1939 through the lend/lease program.
@lander4545 Yup, you can thank the Brits for inventing radar and then sharing it with you after you eventually dragged your asses into the war in 41. The Germans were annihilating you when everything was even stevens.
I served on that ship. I was a head officer!

@Nautilus1972
1. Name one time that the Americans had more tech than the Germans
2. Name one time that the Americans lost a major battle to the Germans
We singlehandedly won WWII and you Brits are too embarrassed to admit it.
