Radio stars, members of the sporting world and industry colleagues made their way to the Radisson Hotel, Golden Lane in Dublin for the official launch by TODAY FM's Ian Dempsey of 'Beat the Bookies'.

Penned by TODAY FM Sports Editor John Duggan, 'Beat the Bookies' aims to help those who enjoy a flutter gain an edge on the bookmakers in order to make money. John knows the do's and don'ts of sports betting from the pressure of giving a weekly tip in the public domain for 8 years. He has given some brilliant winners and hopeless advice down through the years. He's learned a lot. Now he gives his reasons.

'Beat the Bookies' is divided into two sections. The first section guides the reader though the basics of gambling on sport. These include the fundamentals of betting in terms of methods and discipline, an explanation of betting exchanges and a grounding in the basics of horse racing and golf to aid the bettor through these technical sports. The second section is a practical guide to events such as Cheltenham, the Grand National, the Galway Races, golf's Major Championships and the US PGA Tour season; and sports including Soccer, Gaelic Games, Rugby and Tennis.

Written in a conversational and entertaining manner, 'Beat the Bookies' brings the reader into John Duggan's world of betting with personal anecdotes, historical statistics and sage advice.

The book aims to help both novices and seasoned punters, but also appeals to general sports fans. Above all, John Duggan understands the mind of the punter, and in 'Beat the Bookies', he shares his experiences to help you in your decision making for the sporting year ahead.

'Beat the Bookies' is published by Poolbeg Press and available in bookshops nationwide, retailing at €12.99.
