Everyones talking about the political upset at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) over the weekend, where Ron Paul won the presidential straw poll.

A panel that wouldnt have been allowed at CPAC a few years ago was well-attended at this years conference: Youve Been Lied To: Why Real Conservatives are Against the War on Terror.

Co-sponsored by the Campaign for Liberty, Ladies of Liberty Alliance, and the Future of Freedom Foundation, it was attended by over 300 people. The speakers were: * Karen Kwiatkowski — retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel * Philip M. Giraldi — former CIA counter-terrorism specialist and military intelligence officer, current Francis Walsingham Fellow at The American Conservative Defense Alliance, and weekly columnist for Antiwar.com * Jacob Hornberger — founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation * Bruce Fein — former associate deputy attorney general in the Reagan administration

  • @GOPsithlord I also believe that only congress has the constitutional authority to declare war. As far as how the rest of the world runs their countries, well that is their business. I agree with Michael Schauer in that all foreign nations are not worth one drop of American blood or one taxpayer dollar.

  • @GOPsithlord This is where establishment Republicans loses me. I really believe in the founding fabric of The United States Of America and our Constitution. I really believe that our military is for the sole purpose of defending the homeland from physical attack and not for securing ownership of natural resources for corporate elites.

  • @jlbarber54 Our interests are natural resources and more importantly the containment and elimination of radical extremism (which is currently being exported both in the region and elsewhere) originating in that part of the world. The Sunnis have been knocked back, but the Shi'a are ascendendant and while I think our numbers should drop, we should not completely abandon our position.

  • @GOPsithlord From your answer, I still ask the question, What are the American interests for war in Iraq or for that matter, Afganistan? We have knocked the bin laden followers down to hundreds of members. I think the job is done and we should come home.

  • @jlbarber54 I will settle for mere stability and nothing so grand as was originally envisioned. COIN is not intended to bring about democracy but it can bring about an Iraq that is not hostile toward its neighbors. Our interests will remain in the region even if we are no longer in Iraq at the strength we once were.

  • @jlbarber54

we can guess the reasons he went to war against Saddam; 1) remove threat for Iran and Israel 2) get oil.

    so far we benefit nothing.

bad news: 2 more U.S. soldiers were captured today in afghanistan. that raises a total of 3 so far. but it is believe one is already dead. we accomplish nothing in afghanistan. if those afghanis don't want our help to make a better life, we simply withdraw. let them live the way they wanted even if it is bad. who is to say our ways of life is better

  • @KhmerD0gI am sure Bush had his reasons for taking us to war but we will never be told the real reasons... I am just trying to see where in the constitution the executive has the authority...

  • @GOPsithlord Please, I am serious, what are our real interests there?
