The Paschal Canon:
Performed by : Fairuz
performance in Arabic with English and Greek lyrics subtitles (translation).
The angel cried to her who is full of grace
O Pure Virgin rejoice and again I say rejoice
for your Son has risen from the grave on the third day.
Shine, shine, O new Jerusalem!
For the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
Dance now and be glad, O Zion;
and do you exalt O pure Theotokos
in the arising of Him Whom you did bear

Ο αγγελος εβοα τη Κεχαριτωμενη,
Αγνη Παρθενε, χαιρε και παλιν ερω χαιρε,
ο Σος Υιος ανεστη, τριημερος εκ ταφου.
Φωτiζου, φωτιζου, η νεα Ιερουσαλημ,

  • @xgreciandelightx Spending too much time on theology , just like the Church has done, has caused conflict, murder, and endless discussions and debates between Orthodox brothers and sisters. That is why we had internal wars and schisms on topics such as whether icons should be allowed, the manifestation of the divinity of christ etc etc It in this context that i said too much theology is confusing. It is my opinion. Now you can think what you want, good for you, I am giving my opinion.

  • @CyprusHot I did read your post; I'm just wondering what you consider to be 'too much theology'. Christology is a subset and an important aspect of theology, as Christ IS God. Christology is the study of Christ, not the knowing of Him. While I think that's what you meant, there is a big difference between the two. Christognosis would be the knowing of Christ, and that's something the Church leaves to individuals through the process of theosis.

  • @xgreciandelightx Did you even bother to read my post? TOO MUCH theology is confusing..........I am not saying that knowing Jesus is confusing. Theology is the study of God. Christology is the knowing of Jesus. Ok? ...............................

  • @CyprusHot It's explaining what happened and glorifying God, how is that confusing? You have to know about Jesus (theology) to be able to act like Him...

  • This is the wonderful voice of Fayrouz

  • @adamantis4657 Interesting, i never knew this. Seems to complicated to understand fully, I prefer to be like one of the children that ran up to Jesus and the Lord said we must act like them :) In other words, too much theology is confusing.

  • @CyprusHot: As I stated before; orthodox art (iconography, chant, etc...) is never sentimental - it is spiritual. It touches not our emotions (because emotions are on a lower level) but our inner soul.

So I am also touched by the chant - but not in a sentimental way. It goes even deeper - it touches the immortal soul.

Like orthodox icons - they are never sentimental. They do not want to created emiotions - they speak to our soul which longs for God.

  • @adamantis4657 Whether it has emotion or not depends on the listener. Definition of sentimental : expressive of or appealing to sentiment, especially the tender emotions and feelings, as love, pity, or nostalgia: a sentimental song.

    I find this very sentimental.

  • @CyprusHot: Yes - true, beautiful. It is touching but (as all orthodox art) not sentimental. It full of pure spirit and not emotion.
