Chasing a waterspout spray ring by boat in Islamorada, Florida Keys as a part of ongoing waterspout research project. This is a part one, smaller of the two spray rings I intercepted that day. A dedicated website WaterspoutVideo.com just for the project is also in the works...

  • wouldn't you be maby even a little nervous of the water spout picking up its power? and if that happened would you go flying into it?

  • I am always hoping for the waterspout to become more powerful. I'd stay nearby no matter how powerful the waterspout was. Going through one greatly depends on the size of the boat but doesnt have much scientific value for my research at the moment.

  • A waterspout vortex small but very powerful! aims as the surface water of the lake is wonderful, I can intercept a freak of nature so beautiful, it is clear as water seeks the surface very quickly and it is the swirl of small diameter.

You did not decide to enter into the vortex?

    Congratulations on the video.

  • I let the vortex pass over the boat at one point just to my face and camcorder full of salty water. But thats not why we are out there.

  • would it of hurt to inside the circulation? proly no with that weak of rotation

  • This waterspout was quite small and I let it pass over the boat at one point. You just get lots of salty water in your face. The minimum rotational speed of a waterspout to pick up spray on a sea surface is about 40mph or so... This was the case of a waterspout barely holding there together for quite a while.

  • This is the most hilarious, yet awesome video. Hard to believe that something coming from the towering clouds above could make generate such a small presence seen on the water. Dust devils are bigger. Would've been nice to know what this one looked like from about 1/2 to 1 mile away...

  • need!!!!Thx for up!

  • was it windy?

  • where's part 2?

  • Awesome video...the quality of it is outstanding and that's what makes this a better vid than most of the other Waterspout ones.

  • Its cute!

  • thats a small motherfucker isnt it

  • I'm kinda disappointed it didn't form a funnel down to the spray ring, even a lil rope the width of a belt would've been awesome.

Still, a great video. very interesting. :)

  • this is awesome martin!!!
