FYI People: Wynton Marsalis is named after Wynton Kelly. Remember Ellis Marsalis, Wynton's father, is a great pianist and Wynton Kelly was an inspiration to him. that's why he name his son after him.!!

Respectfully I must say that Chambers was usually called by his nickname P.C. - had a song on Giant Steps dedicated to him called "Mr. P.C."

I didn't know that about Chambers.. I wasn't on the scene when the music was being made. I stand corrected.

I was trying to comment on a misunderstanding down the list that a 5th or 6th generation listener had, which seemed to stem from the belief that the only well known Wynton was a Marsalis.

I spoke from my standpoint as a kid who finally grew up and heard the album 15 years after the fact, and became a 3rd generation listener.

I had thought P.C. was a private nickname Coltrane had for Chambers. I didn't know that it was also commonly used by the fans of the day.

The guys in my circle did, but then again, we thought we were the hippest things going, lol!

By the way, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross do a killer vocal version of "Mr. P.C." Well worth checking out if you don't know it.

I appreciate you even more now. It's is wonderful to me that the music is being passed from generation to generation. I myself came to Kind of Blue four years after the fact when I was about . So I guess I'm close to 1st generation. But I did work my way back into the '50's and 40's to Bird and Diz - and then back to...and on and on. And I had to learn it all from scratch. I was lucky enough to have writers and great jazz radio to teach me. So, keep spreading the word and keep the music alive.
