  • Sorry you lost your father my friend.

Its amazing how somebody can just stand there with a camera and capture the look and feel without any sound needed.

Imagine doing this now with a handheld, people would be very dubious about you doing it.

Im glad your Father did this, and thanks for converting it to Youtube.

I am guessing around `83 this was shot..

  • @125or200px

Check out my latest vid of Sheffield Xmas Lights Circa 1974

  • Is this Frecheville/Birley? I was born in Frecheville in 82 and spent my formative years there until we moved up to Grenoside. This must be early 80s as The Moor wasn't pedestrianised until 1979. Great stuff!

  • @morgansifer82

Yes some of it is Frecheville

  • Theres a mk2 cavalier at 0:38 so looking like this was filmed in the very early 80's

  • @donkeywarmer

Thanks, I wasn't sure of the date. I think my father got his first video camera around '82, So you are probably bang on.

I can't ask my father, he passed away 3 weeks ago, That is why I am converting his movies.

  • Fuck that sound!

  • Brilliant, thanks for sharing

  • love this film, shame there are so few of them. i grew up in the 70's in sheffield and it was a different city to what it is today

  • I grew up in 1970s Sheffield. I remember those type of cars and the roads were not that busy back then. It was more gentle and people had time for each other. I wish I could visit the past although it would be hard to adjust to being back there

  • There is the back of a mini metro at 3:01 - so it must be 1980 at least.

  • The best memory I have of Sheffield was Redgates, the huge toy emporium. Every year during the 70s we'd do a big Christmas shop in Sheffield, and Redgates was the highlight for us kids.

  • I remember getting off the last bus from my terminus at 7PM and exiting on the Moor before it was pedestianised. It would be Xmas Eve late seventies and there were people in sleeping bags waiting outside Atkinsons for the sale which began on Boxing day! Proper buses with regular times and cheap fares.Proper roads which you could drive both ways on and proper sales!

  • Some of the shots of hackenthorpe are from the late 80s. There used to be a lovely farm with cattle on the right of the shot down Sheffield road before the crappy housing estate was built.

  • This is the very early 80`s at most. There was a Dennis Dominator double decker, they didn`t appear en-masse til 1981.

  • Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane still with floodlights
