Herman, You always played from the heart. What ever happened to Paul Dioguardi, I was at Berklee from 78 to the late 80's. We were in Just Us with Paul, Joan and Bob. I used to copy the charts...What's Up.......
I was at Berklee in the mid 1980's. Herman was the BEST teacher I had there. I often think about him and his classes. I haven't seen him since and honestly looked him up on Youtube to hear his playing not expecting it to be outside at Fanuel Hall. I know when I talk to my Berklee friends Herman Johnson's name comes up a lot. He realy touched many lives. I love the guy and wish him the best.
Wow, Herman was IT around here in the 80's. He had a steady gig on the first floor of Ryles every Friday and Saturday and he was fantastic. He was one of my best professors at Berklee. I remember him giving a very memorable lecture about the difference of being a Mother Fucker and a Ma' Fa'. When going up the musical "ladder" Mother Fuckers step on people. Ma' Fa's do it with love.
I've heard Herman Johnson play in person in a jazz venue. He is outstanding! I think folks in and around Boston should keep a watch for him when they go to jazz clubs. You leave in awe! It's always a great performance when he plays. He used to play at Bob the Chef's until it closed in the beginning of '08 I believe. Then he can sometimes be seen at Slades on Columbus Ave. That's a place where musicians can sit in at times with the Jazz Quartet. Watch for out for him. He's great! REALLY!!!!!!
