  • It seem like the white guy was making fun of the black ham. Anyways thats alot of power it cant be good for your health mainly your eyes.

  • There are two white guys (Jeff AC4ZO, doing the interview, and Bill Cross W3TN, the FCC guy). And I think they were both were poking fun in an "I can't believe Bob is doing this" kind of way. Which is pretty much everybody's reaction. That power/distance does violate the OSHA guidelines.

  • Well, he DID say that he wanted to 'build something really crazy' and gentlemen - I DO believe that he has succeded! ha ha That is - without a doubt - the most powerful manpack radio system I have ever seen, The weirdest was the HW-101 and small honda generator on a frame backpack - but I think that one was made as a joke.

Thanks for posting! de Ray / W7ASA

  • Bob is having a lot of fun,I would not transmit on that thing but can see on a backpacking trip where you could use something like this,we need more fun in our lives.N4DRR

  • @enfieldpolice That reminds me. I once had to get my bank card remagnetized, not due to RF, but a really strong electromagnetic exposure nevertheless. During '98, I worked at a TV station and we still used copious amounts of videotape from M II through 1". The station had a huge bulk tape eraser and I had to use it before recording new material. Once, I forgot to leave my wallet out in the truck, turned it on, and next day when I needed a withdrawal. Having to explain it to the bank? Grrrrr!!

  • I love Bob's craziness. This is one of the things which makes the hobby as durable, even after 32 years of it as in my case. Since we both have broadcast histories, it'll be cool to talk shop. I sincerely hope to meet him sometime.

  • I think this is very cool, I know health wise it's crazy but I dont think BoB is using this thing normaly, maybe only for quick demo's. Somebody should explore and refine this system, add into it a retractable reel of say 50 ft of cable and a detachable antenna and then you would have the ultimate portable emergency system. Someone can hike with this thing during emergecies then reel out the antenna and be ready to go.

  • FCC man seemed pretty cool, nice project, LiPo batteries are changing a lot of things..

  • and none of his credit cards work LOL

  • This is the HF Pack equivalent of the Manpack Minigun that Jesse Ventura used in Predator. There is no thrill like overkill!! 73 VE4RAI

  • At that power level He will cook the inside of His Noggin and His Nuts

  • That is way cool. Who cares about OSHA ? It s a matter of choice if he wants to use his amp. That is one Kool DUDE!!!!
