New York Times reporter Phillip Shenon joins us to talk about his new book, The Commission: The Uncensored History of the 9/11 Investigation. Shenon says 9/11 Commission executive director Philip Zelikow had close ties to both Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Bush political adviser Karl Rove. Shenon reports that Cheney issued shootdown orders on the planes before he had authorization from the President, and that Cheney then lied about it to the 9/11 Commission. Newsweek has an article "The Shot Heard Round the World" that discusses this. If you're familiar with the timeline of 9/11 events, this raises the possibility that Cheney ordered flight 93 shot down and that it was in fact shot down.
