Terrible, terrible day, but an amazing game. One of the best I've ever seen. Just before this, USU's Ronnie Ross hit one of those "You stupid son of a....NICE SHOT!!!" And we thought we had it won...until this happened.

Oh I loved that game! I watched it at the UC Irvine Pub and it was so great. UC Irvine ended the Aggies' 31 game home winning streak. The previous year the Anteaters went 17-1 in conference, the only blemish being Utah State winning in Logan. Of course UCI went on to lose to Pacific in the conference semis...such a bad memory.

@kyoukilis20 That year UCI had a bunch of buzzer beaters so they were known as an exciting team to watch. This particular game pitted the top two teams from the conference. Mind you, this was a west coast game, so it was on when most of the rest of the country was already asleep.

Great season that year. They should have been an at large bid. Of course the Big West Tourney got changed after this too.

This was an awesome season for UCI. I thought they should have gotten an at large bid for the NCAA tourney that year. :(
I have a lot of respect for Utah State's b-ball program, however. Who is their coach? Stew Morrill? Great coach. His teams are always tough.

I had to work that night, so I taped the game and watched it when I got home. When Jerry hit the shot it was about 2:30 in the morning for me - I screamed so loud I woke up everyone in the house. :) The greatest Anteater (except, perhaps for Kevin Magee) with the greatest shot in team history, remembered forever in UCI lore as "The Dagger!"
