Jodi, first off: depleted iron stores? just eat meat!
Second; how do you expect those nice protein hormones oxytocine and prolactone to pass into the blood. Remember, you can't eat insulin either, its digested in the gut. Until you prove mechanism, this is all just nonsense or at most placebo effect.
Could be dangerous to, if you're eating a stranger's placenta like pro soccer players seem to do - Think about hepatitis B and C, maybe even HIV..
