Intelligence is a very ambiguous term. I would be very vary of anyone using this term in their arguments to support a particular position. I think your right to assume its a red herring. Its definition is often changed to challenges as the comments to your post show.

Tyson is a beast.

@onotix Definitely. If you believe in how large and vast the universe is, it is naive to think we are the only ones out there. I think it goes both ways, there are those more advanced/intelligent and less so, but either way, i think noone is advanced enough to be able to communicate with each other given just how vast the universe is.

@tims0l what, is there going to be a fuck contest?
-
@silentdissonance He is a pale black dot.
-
No it doesn't. Aliens would need the technology to travel thousands of light years through space, which is much more advanced than anything we have, to reach Earth. Any being capable of this is smarter than us at the moment
-
could go the other way as well. They may be too dumb to communicate with us.

From what I've read, he is to be hosting a "Cosmos" 'remake' sometime in 2013.
To follow in the steps of a giant like Sagan is intimidating. It has to be done just right, and by someone with such a grasp of the world, and a grasp of the knowledge of the common person in order to be anything but a farce.
I believe they could not have chosen anyone better.

The problem is he is using an example of single people and saying this is the best we've got. Together the human race is brilliant.
more smart people should have sex with smart people. evolution is allready taking care of this..
