@49bigguy I beg to differ. I think Lenny Bruce was plenty funny, and even earlier than this. Without Lenny, there was no George Carlin, no playing with language to find new laughs in our absurd hangups over language.

Even so, I loved Durante. Still do. And, I miss him and all the greats from that era.

@49bigguy @MrGrevy Things weren't classier in the 70's. There certainly was plenty of cheap filth. And, as to rap, which did exist by then, what's wrong with verse spoken to rhythm? Poetry read to the beat of bongos in the early 60's? Ever hear the song, "Hot Rod Lincoln?" (1972).
