"Beauty In the Eyes of the Beheld" will be screening Oct. 20 in Northern Virginia (location to be announced). The National Organization of Women (NOW) is sponsoring the screening as part of "Love Your Body Day."
I find it interesting that when a realistic documentary interviews women who are considered "beautiful" but are not airbrushed and made-up hollywood style, people criticize it. Yet the same people would probably criticize the media for portraying unrealistic standards of beauty. And the fact that you call them "self absorbed twats" is indicative of some of the difficulties this trailer seems to be portraying. You just proved its point.
I agree with TuRdSandwitch18. These women are NOT beautiful. No amount of makeup or airbrushing could make it so. It's ironic that a documentary about beautiful women has for its subjects such average looking women who obviously think they're beautiful, yet deny it. These women need a reality check. The only truly beautiful woman first appears at 0:15. Nice bone structure, humble, intelligent, elegant.
My blog "The Definition of Beauty" on my website talks a lot about this you should check it out. The following are the women in the trailer: Miss California Teen, Mrs. Missouri 1996, an exotic dancer, a musician who played with Prince, and a couple of everyday women who are considered "beautiful" by many people around them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I asked the beholders for references, and this is what I got. I don't know how else to do it. ???
"Beauty: In the Eyes of the Beheld" will be screening at American University in Washington DC February 23 at 8:30 pm. Filmmaker Liza Figueroa Kravinsky will be there to discuss the film with the audience. Also, downloads are for sale at indieflix(dot)com.
