This is a relic strat i built. It is a sum of different parts, inspired (sort of) by the YJM Relic. It has Fender vintage noiseless pickups, a scalloped fretboard and an orange worn finish (I did not want it to be too obvious a tribute to YJM!).

  • great !! how many time did you spend for building this guitar???

  • I can't really say. If you want to achieve a decent finish you should count 2-3 days for spray painting and a couple of weeks for clear coating. Patience is gold if you want the nitro to set properly!

  • Looks awesome. Can't wait to hear it. Thought about doing that myself but with a scalloped left-hand neck. Roughly speaking, how much did it set you back?

  • Parts excluded? A few cans of nitro (in retrospect 3-4 cans of paint and 3-4 cans of clear so no biggie) and a few sheets of sandpaper. Make sure you get anything from 120 grit up to 600 or more!

Thanks for the comment. You can hear it in my "Samba pa ti" video!

  • looks nice but looks more like pink than orange

  • Hi. it is bright orange. The pink is due to the ambient lighting in the room.

  • Boehoe I must cry...from this bad relic job!

  • Where did you get the parts for this?

  • scalloping also increases sustain

  • Thanks for clearing that up for me! :)

  • You can use your fingers more easily for trem. They don't hit the fretboard. It's essentially like having really large frets. It's actually harder to play fast on a guitar with a scalloped fretboard as stated by Yngwie, but you have more control of the string. I've never personally grown too fond of it though.

  • Hi! I'm wondering about scalloping. What does this do about your guiar? Is there any benefits?

Great guitar you made there btw!
