Ronda is one of southern Spains most popular tourist cities. The journey between Algeciras (the port for Tangier and Ceuta) and Ronda is spectacular, threading a sinuous path through the hills and mountains of Andalucia. Tunnels and viaducts abound, and the line follows several rivers in its 106km. Plenty of attractive stations with their bargeboards and some of the most beautiful pueblos blancos (white villages) they serve. Growing on the steep hills are astonishingly vertiginous fields of wheat and sugar cane interspersed with forests of dwarf oak and cork. It is a memorable journey on this unique track
The line was originally built through a challenging terrain during 1890-92
The journey is about 2 hours and there are currently four train departures from Algeciras a day. (This was filmed April 2009).
