iPod Hacks - Running Apple OSX, Rock Box [Doom], and Linux.

MY iPod Running 3 different firmwares Accessible by loader2 binary loader.

Got rockbox from
www.rockbox.org

Got Linux and Loader2 from
www.ipodlinux.org

set up and directions are on the websites.

NOTE: if you have a 5.5 gen. or higher, you need to use command prompt to install the loader2 properly so you will have all 3 firmwares visible on start up. there is a very detailed walkthrough for installing loader2 on the site but if you dont trust yourself DONT TRY IT.

i dont believe so. its been so l;ong since i hacked an ipod that i honestly forget, (i have a newer gen ipod now and im pretty sure theres no way of putting bootloader on it)

also, is there a way to install Rockbox using my Mac?

check rockbox website for info on macintosh installs.

whats the point of rockbox if you cant load the stuff you want too

you can. there are user made apps to download and you can make your own if your skilled enough.

you dont even need bootloader to use it. thats just for mutiple items on the hdd

5.5 gen and higher you say? Does that mean you can get it on 6gen?

depending on what kind of ipod. the loader has been confirmed to work on certain 6gens, but not the firmwares =/

now I really fucked things up !! while instaling the "Loader2" I extracted the package files, and put the one in the "bin" file along the "ipodpatcher", and now my iPod doesn't work proprely , after I reboot the iPod, it only shows the Apple logo and that's it ! won't connect to my pc nor start !

in the past 2 days i've been payin sum attention to mine :P installed Rockbox on top of the Mac OS , but then i wanted Wikipedia (which u can totally install guys!) so i did.. but the problem is that I can't find a way to enter Rockbox now that The ipl is running :S

i have a 5th gen 80 Gb ipod. ROck box wont show on the menu when you get to select if you want ipod linux and apple os and when i try booting ipod linux it says err. I had to use the 5.5 download because the 5 gen download said it couldnt find my ipod. I don't wanna have to restore it... again. please help.
