THIS SONG WENT TO #5 IN 1967 FOR PROCOL HARUM.
LYRICS: We skipped a light fandango,
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor.
I was feeling kind of seasick,
But the crowd called out for more.
The room was humming harder,
As the ceiling flew away.
When we called out for another drink,
The waiter brought a tray.

And so it was that later,
As the miller told his tale,
That her face at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

She said there is no reason,
And the truth is plain to see
That I wandered through my playing cards,
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast.
And although my eyes were open,
They might just as well have been closed.

And so it was later,
As the miller told his tale,
That her face at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

  • @rwells47 Hi Ron. Yes, that is true. I read that Whiter Shade has been covered by over 1,000 artists. I have only the "A Salty Dog" LP. It is nice to keep learning about bands from the era. Eventually, I am going to sponsor a course on 1960s-1970s rock/pop history, here in Bellevue, as I cannot find anyone who offers such courses, not even the UW.

  • @CoCowboy692000 everybody has their own opinion and you are entitled to it I think the Boxtops are great. especially this song, you keep me hanging on, and cry like a baby. And to think Alex Chilton was only 15. I was 15 also and I couldn't sing like that, I was jealous. LOL

  • The box tops are great at covers, alex's voice makes everything good.

  • it's my all time faverit

  • @dashofchutmeg There's no such thing as Alex Chilton without soul. Although I must agree with @princeofthemods69.
