Want the scoop on Albuquerque's red light Camera program?
The City of Albuquerque has made over 14 Million dollars fining its citizens when it has done everything it possible can to jeopardize their safety to entrap its citizens into these fines. It has done everything it can to diminish road safety, increase the number of tickets and accidents through the manipulation of yellow light timing, manipulating slipstreams, and has resulted in an overall increase in the number of accidents at cameraed intersections by 20% since the programs started. (Source: Albuquerque Journal, June 2006, Middle Rio Grande Council of Governments, 2008)
If the city stands to gain money by having an inefficient traffic system, it will ultimately lead to frustrated drivers, vehicles wearing out faster, increased emissions, and yes, increased traffic accidents from vehicles attempting to stay in the slipstream.
Already, normally law abiding citizens are fighting back using reflective coatings and license plate covers on their cars. Some have even resorted to placing fake letters on the plate to obfuscate the plate numbers. Others still, have simply registered their cars under corporations or LLCs to make them impervious to the and makes the program a complete joke. Many cities that have experimented with the Cameras have found them to be a huge boost in revenue. More responsible cities have found they also increase accidents at intersections. Responsible cities and governments have stopped these programs. What makes Albuquerque think its program is any different? The attitude of city government seems to be to ignore these issues. I suppose as long as the city is making money, it's ok to cause more traffic accidents than we are stopping, right? I think it's difficult to make someone understand something if their job performance and revenue depends on them not understanding it. Let's get our slipstreams in gear and make sure our citizens get the protection and due process they deserve. Impeach Chavez now! Check out RedFlex.com for the company information on the Red light camera program. Isn't it amazing the first thing the website mentions is profitability and offers ZERO safety statistics?

i agree COMPLETELY! chavez is total dumb ass and probably kept have of the fines payed due to the red light cameras. me and a group of friends had bumper stickers made saying how we really feel about him so if you want any let me know.
I posted to this six months ago and sure enough I got nailed by another camera back in October. 47 in a 35 at Menaul and San Mateo. The camera didn't take into fact that I was trying to make an amber or that the car next to me was tailgating in order to make the yellow light as well. They will also turn on the camera as soon as it gets installed. They won't wait for the other camera at the same installation. The economy is in the crapper right now so the city is stepping up tickets.
What would be interesting is if someone could find footage of the intersections light change pattern before the cameras were installed so we could make a comparison with the intersections current pattern.
Speaking of driving safety, I strongly suggest getting a passenger to do your filming. Regardless as to if your eyes remain on the road or not, operating the camera will distract you from your driving. This will defiantly hurt your ability to make the point you want.
As far as I could tell, the intersection with the camera was the largest intersection you traveled through in the video. Im given no way of knowing that the pattern of light changes is done to trick drivers and not to accommodate the heavier traffic flow from the perpendicular road. In fact, the frequent light changes could cause it to be more prone to being run and thus a candidate to have had cameras installed.
Your assertion is that the intersection with the cameras is the only one going against the slipstream in order cause more drivers to run the light. However, there could be other factors at work here.
The camera that was first to be spotted which is a redflex camera. the cheetah mirror would have this stored in memory so you would get a warning before you even got to the camera. simple soultiuon to a simple problem.
