HIM Nicholas I, Emperor and Autocrat of all the Russias, also known as the "Gendarme of Europe" and the "Iron Czar". His reign is usually considered the height of the Russian autocracy. He lived simply, was very religious and very reactionary -all good things. The motto of his reign was "autocracy, Orthodoxy and nationality". He suppressed revolutionaries at home and came to the aid of the Austrian Hapsburgs against Hungarian revolutionaries in 1848. He died just before the final Russian defeat at the hands of Britain and France during the Crimean War.
Splendid!
