Seba presents the second in a series of YouTube Mini-classes in Tribal Style - Group improv bellydance. This lesson focuses on The "Poo-Cano" a unique 4-count spin as well as a recap on Turkish, which this move comes out of. This is a Level 2 move in the WildCard BellyDance ITS format.
Side-Note... A huge rain-storm came through while taping...which you can hear!

  • where does the name for this move come from?

  • @Capricabellydancer The name of the move comes from a long story... Every year the troupe has an outing on on the "party barge" on a Lake in Sonoma. The troupe chills out, plays and of course talks BellyDance. The name came out of an experience on the lake while discussing the new move. More than that will have to come in person (at a festival)

  • okay, I have a question. At 9 minutes when you are dancing with the gal in the green & yellow skirt (sorry, I can't recall her name) the paddle turn is done clockwise instead of counter clockwise like in the instructionsand the arms are opposite also. Is this because the lead is opposite of what it usually is in ATS/ITS or is it just a variation of the move ? Thanks.

  • @pbashe Haha You are observant! We were wondering how long it would take for someone to notice that very thing. In that particular formation Kristen is indeed turning clockwise as she is leading move from the left. Leading from the left is an option still retained from their BlackSheep days though it is not used that often.

    Cheers !

  • Excellent explanation Seba. I Love this move! :)

  • Thanks so much about sharing your steps. The instruction is wonderful.

  • I have a dance drills coming out soon. I dance through all the moves taught so far. It will be a great transition practice.

  • @Lyza00800 Great question! it all depends on what the leader chooses to do. If she wants to immediately go into another poocano (Without going into Turkisk) the back arm will go up and the follow dancers should do the same ( its a quick cue and can be hard to catch) an easier cue is to go back into Turkish and the lead dancers' arm slides from the back of the head and transitions to Turkish arms. Whatever the leader does with her arms, the follow dancers should always do the same.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this! Love this move, just wondering - as you come out of Poo-cano does the arm resting on the back of the head get raised above the head and out or do you slide the hand around your head to the front again without raising the arm above the head? Or should the lead dancer be the only one to raise the arm up? Thanks

  • Thank you thank you thank you! I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a year now, but I haven't been able to see the feet so I couldnt get it right! (so now I need to work on not getting dizzy!

Your willingness to share your knowledge is a credit to you and your troupe!
