@tomhalling Technically, Tom classical music is written in different movements which is similar to chapters in a book. This particular song is called the Four Seasons (it's quite lengthy over 20 minutes) it has 4 movements and each of those movements have 3 smaller concerti (like paragraphs). Vivaldi here predominantly used a violin so the reason it sounds similar is its the same instrument.

It needs to be said, but only because they did it so faithfully... Look up Children of Bodom, they re-did this with only the two guitarists. Quite accurate... such a haunting song... I like the faded violins; their ascension to loudness was something Children of Bodom couldn't catch, and I really think it was a nice touch in this song. Before Bodom, I was not familiar with this song. Just type Children of Bodom in the search, it'll be one of the top 15 results.

this is so fun to play along in the guitar :)

yanni made a different version of this song. it is really good. just search: yanni the storm
Is there one recording/performance of this piece that is like the most well known one? Or are there just hundreds of different versions of it that all sound pretty much the same?

@tomhalling i shouldnt think so. as this is one of the most famous musical pieces ever written, especially for violinists, everyone trys it and so there are loads of recordings. the best violinist of our time, isaac stern, did a great one with itzhak perlman and a few other violinists and the israel philharmonic orchestra. academy of ancient music with christopher hogwood uses the instruments of the baroque period, so it probably comes out close to how vivaldi intended.

@tomhalling there is also the academy of st martin- in- the- fields conducted by neville marriner, who are have done a large and wonderful body of work in classical music and are held in high regard (they were also used in the music for the movie Amadeus). I posted this one because its my favorite; its good technically and fairly clean, but for me its stirs the emotions, captures or creates atmosphere of a season wonderfully, and is more excieting than any other recording.

@Alansubtil thats cool, you should make a video of that. and of course doing it on violin is not impossible, or it would never have been performed or recorded so many hundreds of time.but it sure aint easy.
