As I said in my previous video, the SodaStream machine is something of a boutique item. (I'll guarantee that they were a hot gift this year!) It's not for everyone.

If you might want to make your own pop/soda/cola, you can always use Club Soda as a base if you do not have or want your own carbonation equipment.

For those who wondered why I bought into the SodaStream thing, the answer is simple. If you've got something in your life that you want to do--even if it's not practical--you should do it! That's true no matter what "it" is (within reason, of course)!

This was only recorded in HD because I don't know where the DCR-TRV280 is at the moment.

  • Whos netbook :P?

  • @TheDataZoo Mine of course.

  • Hey Bill, how come you don't do any computer related videos anymore? I miss those videos as they were my favorite from you. I would love to hear about how your FreeNAS backup system is doing.

I like the idea of these soda machines but as I don't drink soda I never venture into getting one.

  • @MacintoshUser1986 My videos focus on what I'm working on at a particular moment. I haven't had the time (or even the need) to start a computer related project lately. Sometimes I'm working on random electronic stuff, cars or computers. The videos follow what I do.

  • @uxwbill My digital camera is older. and I can hear a loud "CLICK" when I transition from dark to light or vice versa. Kinda funny. More related to the video, where does the CO2 come from on the sodastream? I suppose I could just look it up lol

  • Pouring that stuff in, just does not give you the same kind of enjoyment as using the soda machine, it's worth the extra just for the enjoyment :o)

  • @uxwbill The audible autofocus/zoom motor noise is simply because of the miniaturization of the entire camcorder, so the microphone is closer to the moving parts and thus picks up the noise. And it's a catch-22, because the manufacturers think on the cheaper models, most people won't complain about it, and on the high-end models, they expect you to be using an external microphone anyway.

  • @vwestlife I suppose there is a good reason for this, though I have not looked into it. Maybe it is simple--more pixels means more for the image processing hardware to do.

Another thing that I find surprising is the noise that "modern" autofocus systems make. I cannot hear the autofocus working on the TRV280 most of the time, though I do hear it in the Canon (all the time, as a rapid ratcheting noise) and fairly often with the HDR-HC7. I find it odd that this is acceptable.

  • @uxwbill From all the test videos I've seen and done across different brands and models (not just Sony), it's pretty consistent that the higher the resolution a camcorder's image sensor is, the slower its autofocus is. And it's not just an HD thing; the 3.3 megapixel sensor in my standard-definition DCR-HC96 has annoyingly sluggish autofocus, as I complained about in my "Two and a half Walkmen" video. My FS200 and my Hi8 & Digital8 Handycams are much quicker.

  • @uxwbill Psychopath might be accurate at times, but not in this context. ;)

  • @greg357159 No, I asked you "why", as in "why do you feel a sucker is born every minute" just because they want to do something that might be interesting. I don't make charges of anything, only a comparison to highlight the difference in case it were unclear. I'd like to hear your reasoning!

I have a feeling my response is academic, as you appear to be more interested in making insults (a psychopath...really?) than understanding a different viewpoint or having a reasonable debate.

  • @SwingMan1937 In the end, I think it all works out about the same. I don't foresee a great deal of savings from the SodaStream...my main reason for buying it was just to have a way that I could carbonate homemade pop.

I should probably sit down and try to figure up the costs.
