In order to mark the 2012 four hundred year anniversary of the one of the most notorious witch trials in English History 'The Pendle Witches', Raising the Roof productions intend to produce the definitive documentary drama based on the proceedings by the clerk to the court, Thomas Potts.

This film will encompass dramatic reconstruction leading up to the events the trails and the final outcome of the courts proceedings mixed with an investigative approach using a presenter on the scene and on the spot interviews with the characters/witness involved with both the defence and prosecution.

Our intention is to highlight the thoughts and practices of the time and to find the truth about those fated Pendle Witches whilst producing a highly dramatic and entertaining film worthy of such a poignant anniversary of not only local but national history.

We would like to hear from anyone interested in becoming involved with this project either local to Pendle or far a field so feel free to contact us.

For further information/interest about this film please email:

Written and presented by Zilpah Hartley.

  • Very nice piece, I was in the area late last year and stayed at Damhead Barn a really nice place in Roughlee where Alice Nutter is said to have frequented. I was there researching for our album release later this year; "The Witching of Pendle".
