Astilbe is a good choice for a slightly-shaded area in your garden. It blooms around June and has attractive fern-like foliage that is attractive all season.

  • @teznow08 Extension horticulturist Greg Stack responds: "A general purpose garden fertilizer is fine to use with astilbe. You can use the dry granular material. The best time to apply is when the flower buds are forming for next season which generally happens in late summer. So apply a small amount around each plant and water in very well."
