Pickle fork will tear the boot...ball joint no good now. Go to Harbor Freight and get this little gem, use it. No hammering, no damage. It just works.
Ball Joint separator, part number 99849. Sixteen bucks.

Some liquid wrench shoot it before you remove the ball joint or some pl100 this is great stuff,and it really works,been useing it for 1 year now.

Is this guy a butcher or what? Unless that ball joint is garbage, he just ruined it by tearing the boot. You can tap the sides of the lower control arm where the ball joint goes thru to break that bond.
