  • Namaste, its interesting to see that you think fire poi originated in Hawaii...while others have said its from the Maori culture. In a way it supports the theory that fire dancing, even fire poi, actually has a vast input from the Hindu culture of India. In the old days the hindu culture of India had an influence over Madagascar in Africa/ all of south east asia ( Indonesia/Java/Bali etc) and perhaps influence over Maori NZ, Samoa, Fiji and way over to Hawaii! please c my channel~ Peace & Shanti

  • @JoriAcharya Hey, thanks for your comment. My understanding is that different versions of "poi" originated in different parts of the world. There may be confusion between the origin of fire poi and potato poi for example. One could even argue that swinging a flail in Medieval times is a bit like a poi dance :-)
