This is the London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Pink Floyd's The Great Gig in the Sky.
I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd, and really wouldn't want anyone to remake their songs. However, the London Philharmonic Orchestra is superb enough to not only cover these songs, but do so fantastically and keep the overall feel very well.
If you liked this song, please go out and buy the London Philharmonic Orchestra's album "Us and Them" for more orchestral Pink Floyd.
I uploaded this in DVD quality so as not to sacrifice the integrity of the sound. So, sorry about the somewhat slow load time, but it's worth it.

  • I feel it should be mentioned that Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke did the arrangements for this album as it was his idea to do it in the first place - and Youth from KJ produced it too :) Beautiful music btw.

  • @jimaginata

Thank you for the info. :)

  • Very Amazing .

I Would Enjoy Seeing This Performance .

  • oh, I would enjoy that very much as well.

  • This is such a cool album :) I need to get it for study time or something. Pink Floyd and classical music? Hell yeah!

They should have had an operatic singer doing some vocals on this though, instead of the violin, which is a little shrill and annoying on the high notes, and not quite as amazingly explosive, more like a background element, and I always found the vocals the most amazing and great part of this song. They're not words, they're an instrumental track!

In any case, thank you! :)

  • you're welcome :) On the original, I believe the term for the use of voice is "vocable" singing.

and, I agree about the occasional shrillness of the violin- perhaps they could've used a clarinet and toned it down an octave?

  • RIP Syd; we barely knew you.

  • The violin here is godly

  • Just beautiful.

  • Where's the vocals! We need vocals! We need Clare Torry!

  • @GoresVire couldnt have said it any better

  • That shrill violin makes it sound to lugubriously sad. It's hauntingly beautiful.

  • the violin parts werent originally written voiced for violin...... they are awesome as they were interpreted here, imho
