The original French version and one English translation verse. Note that genuflecting is not the same as falling on one's knees, suggesting a different form of reverence. The song was written by an athieist in 1841, the music was composed by a Jew and first translated into English in the 1855 by a Unitarian minister. The song has since been translated into various versions.
