This movie shows the Disability Soccer Team from Haiti (Who place 2nd. in the Disability World Cup Soccer Competition last year) during an exhibition scrimmage against the Texas State Men's Club Soccer Team. During the Scrimmage, the Club Team were split up between each half of the Haitian team and they played for over an hour and a half. Our daughter, Allie, is a Lecturer at Texas State University in the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Program at Texas State. She and her colleagues conducted a fund-raiser to bring over 20 athletes and coaches in to tell their story to the Texas State TR students. Allie and her husband Chris put all the athletes up at the Freeman Ranch, where Chris is the ranch foreman during the four days that they were in San Marcos. During their visit, many of the athletes were given specialized surgery on their limbs, PRO BONO, by the Baylor School of Medicine. Additionally, a couple of prosthetic companies were able to fit many of the athletes with prosthetic limbs so that they could better ambulate around on their return to Haiti. The most heart felt story occurred during this exhibition when a mother of a teenage son who was a gifted soccer player prior to a car accident, that took one of his leg, drove down from Dallas to have her son witness the exhibition. Since the boy's amputation had left him so depressed that he never thought he'd ever be able to play sports again, the athletes from Haiti met with the boy and asked the boy if he would join in and play, and let him try to kick a goal at the end of the game. When the ball crossed into the goal, the Haitian athletes all gathered around and hoisted the boy above their heads in jubilation. It was a special moment. We are all very proud of Allie for her courageous journey this week and in helping those who are in need. Bob and Jill Pankey
These ppl are sooo strong...even if they have one leg...they still have hope. They don't sit around and think "oh it's the end of my life".
