~ BOBBY DARIN ~ Jehovah Hallelujah ~ Sung by Bobby Darin. Bobby Darin is the only singer who crossed all genres of music sucessfully before he died at age 35.
I would say that Ray Charles, Aretha, Cleo Laine (who was nominated for a Classical Grammy) Sam Cooke covered at least as many genres. Aretha has been nominated in pop, R&B, Jazz, and Gospel categories and we all heard her fill in for Pavoratti at the Grammys.
@taddyd1 But Darin was best known for his teen idol image with "Splish Splash" and the like and wrote many of those songs. His audience changed dramatically when he experimented with jazz, and there, too, he wrote some jazz songs. Ironically most of Darin`s best work centered on jazz singing but unfortunately music history still catagorizes him as a "teen idol".
