Sandaoling open cast mine is in Xinjiang Province in the far west of China. A JS class 2-8-2 heads a long rake of empty wagons up hill from the state railway at Liushuquan to the deep mine. In the distance a diesel hauled freight can be seen passing on the state railway. The JS whistles on approaching a level crossing and a passing lorry hoots in reply. These shots were filmed in December 2009, sadly, by January 2010 this section of line had gone over to diesel.
Beautiful video! Thank you.
