  • C's owner Walter Brown called Rochester owner Les Harrison with a proposition. He said, ‘Listen, Les. I’m the president of the Ice Capades. If you lay off Russell at Number 1,pick the date and I’ll throw the Ice Capades in your building for 2 weeks.’ This was Red’s genius working overtime. He knew that in the off-season back then, a lot of those big arenas sat empty. Having the Ice Capades in your building for 2 weeks was like having the Harlem Globetrotters: guaranteed sellouts! Harrison bit.

  • The circus back then would sign contacts in advance to play in some towns. The circus had shows in other towns like the Old Boston Garden for years and teams like the Celtics would go on a road trip while the circus was in town(they still do). The Celtics and Bruins are on road trips while the circus is in town. How did Red Auerbach acquire Bill Russell?

  • A player of the 90's? Mikan was born in 1924...How many black players were in the league when he played?

  • if you have the time to do more videos , please do one for gus johnson , the charles barkley of the 60s/70s

  • can you make one about the history of the lakers

  • Thank you for the piece on Mikan. Our family lived kiddie corner from George, Pat

and their children (oh and their boxer, Bones). I mention this because it was a very

big deal when Edward R Murrow came to do person to person at the Mikan home.

In those days, late '50's, they ran cables about the size of sewer pipes!

I keep searching hoping someone has archived a video of the visit with Murrow

    on Person to Person.

  • Rest in peace.

  • Great Video but George was a star in late 1940's and Mid 1950's. Also Bob Petit and Paul Arizin were great players in the 1950's
