Joe Bataan, King of Latin-Soul. From his 1968 album Riot. Second version. Original version on album "Gypsy Woman" released 1967.

Lyrics:

I can't move a mountain top
Everything's ordinary on my block

I don't drive a beautiful car and
I don't own an elegant home
I don't have thousands to spend
Or a sea side cottage for the weekend

I'm just an
Ordinary guy
You left behind
Ordinary guy
You left behind

Exclusive night clubs,
Are out of style with me
Cause, I don't associate, with high society
I don't hang around playboy millionaires

I'm just an
Ordinary guy
You left behind
Ordinary guy
You left behind

Subways take me downtown
My apartment is my home
I spend weekends with friends
Otherwise I'm alone

Walk hard
Pay me no mind
You're ashamed of me
You girl

Walk hard passing by
Don't you know that I'm not the guy

Moving non stop
You can't see beyond my block

I'm never gonna let you go

  • This is not the original version. The original version is on Joe Bataan's Gypsy Woman album (1967)

  • Actually, you're right. I got a hold of a copy of "Gypsy Woman" a couple of months ago, and it had the original version, only I had never heard it before. I forgot to edit the page. Thanks.

  • The great thing about Bataan is that he sang salsa style with a mix of doowop as he personalized his own latin blues of the era and still transmits that soul into ones bones. Thanks for sharing his music. Loved it.

  • wow i grew up in jersey an always thought JOE Bataan was Puerto Rican , ...we learn to infinity
