The competition started with four contestants performing a ramp show in swimwear around a mini swimming pool located at a picturesque local on the lap of Dhauladhar mountain range.

The participants contested for 40 points judged by two jury members 10 points each for their figure, skin, posture and poise.

A large public enthusiasts turned up to watch, what has been described by many in the exile Tibetan community as the "most daring" part of the beauty pageant.

A strong media presence, however, dominated the scene of the competition round.

Scores from six more competition rounds in the next two days will add up to decide the final crowning of this year's Tibetan beauty on the grand finale night on Sunday at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA).

Two more rounds - "Presentation and Talent" - will be held tonight at TIPA.

This year's pageant is officially called Kingfisher Miss Tibet Pageant 2010, as KF is the sponsor of the pageant.

Meet the Miss Tibet contestants

==========
NDTV report:

Four contestants will try their luck at winning the title of Miss Tibet 2010 at a beauty pageant in Dharamsala, India this weekend.

One contestant says she believes her participation would give confidence to Tibetan girls.

[Tenzin Norzon, Contestant, Miss Tibet 2010 Pageant]:
"Being a Tibetan woman, this platform is made for our Tibetan girls and most of the girls don't have the guts to participate in this, so for them I want to boost confidence within them, and also if I win the crown then I have lot to do for my country."

But the event would be a low profile one because of the earthquake that hit the country last month.

[Lobsang Wangyal, Director, Miss Tibet 2010 Pageant]:
"Because of the earthquake in Tibet, there will be no firecrackers. Although there will be some glamor but we will keep it very low profile and instead of fire crackers, there will be prayers because we want to show them that we are with you."

The ninth edition of the Miss Tibet pageant will take place between June 4 and 6.

  • LOL that asian guy looks funny with that accent

  • @lhazeyziyi, To come back to the topic of dispute, the young lady in the video needs to think before she passes judgment especially agreeing to your point about such public figures being in the limelight and so on. And another thing, I think that we both agree to disagree on the subject of the topic "reserved seats" which we shall conclude as that of an opinion of two people who have experienced and seen it in their lives in a different manner.

  • @BhomoMila May be some of you do not need those scholarships, funds or reserved seats. But majority of Tib.youth needs them to get to their dreams. And these so called 'reserved seats' help them immensely.

And i have also seen Young spoilt Tib. folks getting into drugs, doesn't respect their parents, doesn't even know Tibetan, seems they have forgotten their identity. I appreciate those who really work hard and make us proud. But, at the same time disheartened to see those who drag Tib.name.

  • @lhazeyziyi, The young folks that I have met with here deal with foreign nationals especially living in America, these students struggle daily to get to where they are. If you were to maybe do a bit more of a research you'd find these prestigious striplings running around working hard to make the Tibetan name proud but definitely not to wear it down with false usages especially looking around for these so called *reserved seats.

  • @lhazeyziyi, After 50 yrs in exile, I think it is incompetent of the current youths to still use the issue of the TIbetan situation as a means to get somewhere in life. We should strife at our own accord to be someone in this world and of course the identity of the willing person will be acknowledged when one is able to stand on his/her own two feet. There is much pride, respect, and recognition for that simple move.

  • @lhazeyziyi, You maybe speaking of a few handful of Tibetan youths that have had the opportunity to use their identity and under privilege backgrounds to be accepted into these institutions. However, many of us pride ourselves because we at our own risk chose not to use the current Tibetan predicament as a way to benefit ourselves in these wide range of establishments.

  • @BhomoMila Good to be proud of your great work and this has been possible to many ppl with the help of the special reserved seats , financial aid or scholarship and not to mention the hard work or efforts from their side too. So, its crystal clear that you are good when left in you own field. Like wise, Miss Tibets excel in their field too. I do agree that their are ways to do things and a way to say things out in public as they are public figures and are always in limelight.

  • @BhomoMila One more point to add, it is way easier to compete with handful of tib. applicants rather than competing with lakhs of other applicants. So, special measures and stratigies have taken to uplift tib. students by providing few seats for them.

  • @BhomoMila U are right who the hell in this day or time without fame or fortune will give a simple Tib. student a space for 2-3 yrs in their institutions..etc. Reserved seats are provided by the insitutions so that Tib. refugees can get opportunities like all other people on this planet. Ofcourse, you have to work hard to get through the exams but things are made much more easier as in to get admissions and all.

  • @BhomoMila As far as we are concerned, reserved seats are given to non-creamy layers and under priviledge ones. It is very rare that a Tibetan student gets medical or engineer seats without the help of those reserved seats. So, opportunities are given to Tib. students so that they can accomplish their dreams like any other students in the world. And like i have said anyone slogging hard and with the help of those reserved seats can become whateva they want to.
