You must realize the label "cult" is just a put down that can be applied to almost any religious group. There are no definitive characteristics. Some have called the Catholic church a cult. The Soka Gakkai at its core is based on heart to heart encouragement to win in life no matter what. That has been my experience.

Can I chant NamMyohoRengeKyo in English and have the same effect?? If not why is it so important to chant it in Japanese since the Buddha did not speak Japanese? Please respond Please.

Japanese is a mora based language where all sounds with the exception of "n" are consonant-vowel combination. NanMyouhouRengeKyou 南無妙法蓮華經 derives from the pronunciation of Chinese characters. When it is run through the phonetic filter of the phonetically simplistic Japanese language becomes unrecognizable to the original language. How can such a phonetically garbled, interpreted, bad pronunciation of another languages words possibly carry any power? Might as well say rubber baby buggy bumpers.
