Yup. And it was true too. The Spartan's armor was too thick and resistant to be peirced by Persian arrows. They were apparently spied on, and were told of an old goat path that led around to the back of the Spartan's ranks. The Phocians guarded this path. But when the Persian armies reached the phocians, for some reason or another, they thought their homeland was being attacked, so they returned to defend it while the 300 Spartans and 1,000 Athenians died, giving them time to escape.

The movie was very entertaining, but I agree that it did depict the persians as evil and corrupt mutants. But they were a conquering empire, there's no doubting that.

if any two words could describe the spartans it would be bad ass...they were gods. and i totally agree...real guys acting not tom cruise or any of the other hollywood pretty boys...i say good work to the filmmakers, this movie was the shit

I hate only the racists. I am Greek but i love Persians.I dont like the emperors and the imperialism. The great with the Sparta its that a very very small city in the ancient times had the best warriors all the world for 400 years , 750 B.C. till 371 B.C. (battle of lefctra).And they are not just war beasts but humans too.Read the "GATES OF FIRE", the true historical and not Arthour Millers "300"

anyways, I heard a more realistic version will come out, based on the book. But this one just made it there first.

None of them are realistic, because they were all based on a story written by "the father of lies".
Anything besides rough troop counts and that all the spartans were killed is just made up.
