John I am a poor man and cannot afford your kit. Can you share where to purchase the felt you use?/I have made a bulk tank from a recycled hotwater tank from the dump, I have a 100 ft coil.blk pipe on the roof , trying thermosyphoning however I may need a solar pump to circulate the water..any help Thanks Phil R

Although MTD systems are more portable than most solar applications. Collectors, heat storage tanks and heat distribution systems are not meant to be moved. Solar energy is a long term investment and way of life.

Looks like what you save in heating you will end up spending in water lost to evap

@dieseltwitch Not really.. This is what the Mylar inner film is for. I only lose a few gallons a year for a 200 gallon system on the new design.

Would Aluminum coated Mylar (the reflective type like an emergency blanket only 4 Mil thick) produce more heat instead of the felt?? I have about 300' x 54" and thought since it reflects up to 99% light including much of the infrared spectrum, it may work better??? Thoughts or have you tried this?

It's funny how the tie-die shirt exemplifies the treehugger hippie stereotype! But I love the concept of what you are doing and think it's great you are doing a good thing by posting help for those interested in lowering our fossil fuel footprint. A+!
