This video charts the trip of some of Coca-Cola's female employees to Tanzania, to see Coca-Cola's Micro Distribution Centres (MDCs). Occasionally called Manual Distribution Centres, these MDCs are an extremely effective way of delivering Coca-Cola products to small shops and businesses who want to sell Coca-Cola. They are fully owned by local entrepreneurs in Africa, and more than 30% of MDCs in Africa are owned and managed by women. They are not run or managed by Coca-Cola, but rather the MDCs own the franchise to work with our bottlers, distributing Coca-Cola products in hard-to-reach areas. Once an MDC is up and running, owners can typically earn monthly revenues of $20-30,000 depending on the nature of the area they cover and the time of year, and each one provides income for between 5-7 employees.
