Bullroarer: This is used by australian aboriginal people in ceremony when boys are getting initiated. 15-20 bullroares at the same time!

@2wingo hm dunno about that. As far as I know women were just property and only useful to gather shellfishes (and other misc. easy works) and to have a baby. Dunno what those female rituals would've been about if they really existed, sry. (and wether women were that "important" to have their own ceremonies?)

@2wingo Yeah, in aboriginal times the sound of bullroarers were signals for women and children that a religious act was in progress and not to disturb it (women had no rights at all and were just "property", so they weren't allowed to take part in any religious ceremonies). The sound of that, however, was said to be a ghost's voice...
